Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
Manchester United have beaten Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League.United took the lead after 19 minutes with Patrice Evra firing in a low cross which Robin Van Persie steered past Jose Reina. It could have been worse for Liverpool just before half time, but a clever Van Persie back heel was cleared off the line by Martin Skrtel.Brendan Rodgers made changes at half time and brought on Daniel Sturridge for his league debut.Three minutes after the interval, United doubled their lead.Van Persie turned provider, bending in a dangerous free kick for Evra to head past Reina, the ball deflecting in off Nemanja Vidic's face.Liverpool pulled one back soon after - a low strike from Gerrard was only parried by David de Gea and Sturridge used his poacher's instinct to follow up and score.Sturridge had a chance to snatch an equaliser with five minutes to go after Suarez's determination saw the ball break to his strike partner, but the 23-year-old could only fire over the bar.Man of the match Danny Wellbeck hailed Robin Van Persie, who has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances. He told Sky: "Robin's a different class. He produces moments in the game that others can't do. We're glad to have him on our side."In the second half they got into it at the back end of the game. It was a great team performance, we dug in pretty well and our character showed through at the end.
Arsenal 0-2 Manchester City
Premier League champions Manchester City remained seven points adrift of leaders Manchester United after a 2-0 win away to Arsenal on Sunday, with both teams finishing a man down in an eventful match.First-half goals from James Milner and Edin Dzeko put City in a commanding position against Arsenal, already down to 10 men after Laurent Koscielny was sent off in the 10th minute for bringing down Dzeko inside the box.Although Dzeko's penalty following Koscielny's red card was turned onto the post by Wojciech Szczesny, with the Arsenal goalkeeper gathering the rebound, it was not long before Milner and Dzeko himself made the man advantage count. The visitors too were a man down at the Emirates Stadium when, 15 minutes from time, City captain Vincent Kompany was dismissed by referee Mike Dean for a challenge on Jack Wilshere despite appearing to win the ball first.Second-placed City were briefly 10 points adrift of United after their cross-town rivals beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford earlier on Sunday.
