The Spain international appears to be surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu, and could be on his way to the Premier League to keep his chances of making Euro 2012 alive.Raul Albiol could be set to depart Real Madrid in the January transfer window as Manchester City have shown an interest in signing the center-back, AS reports. The Europa League hopefuls are looking to add some more depth to their back-line in order to keep up their Premier League title bid, and manager Roberto Mancini allegedly sees the 26-year-old Albiol as a useful addition to his squad.
Albiol joined Real Madrid from Valencia in the summer of 2009 and immediately became an important first-team member in his maiden season at los Blancos. However, the defender has lost his starting berth under coach Jose Mourinho and has mainly been warming the bench, with Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho the preferred centre-back pairing last season while Pepe and Sergio Ramos have been the first choice this term.As such, Albiol could be forced into a move in order to relaunch his career elsewhere and keep his chances of making Spain's Euro 2012 squad alive, and City appear to be ready to swoop for the defender.
