André Schürrle Might End The Job of Daniel Sturridge

André Schürrle, Who Plays For Germany And Bayern Leverkusen Can Be The Next Signing Of Chelsea As The Mighty Blues having hijacked Tottenham Hotspur’s attempts to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian international. A deal should be announced soon.Schürrle’s club, Bayer Leverkusen, have already rejected an offer of £17 million for the 21 year-old and insisted that he would stay with them. But Chelsea are considering their next move with an improved offer of around £20 million.Despite Leverkusen’s public stance, talks between the two clubs were scheduled to take place yesterday although it was unclear on Tuesday night whether they went ahead.Schürrle was identified by former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas as a key signing as part of his brief to overhaul an ageing first team and the club have pressed ahead with their interest despite his sacking in March. If Schürrle is signed he will join Oscar, Eden Hazard (£35.3 million from Lille) and Marko Marin (£6.5 million from Werder Bremen) as Chelsea’s summer arrivals  taking the club’s spending to already more than £80 million with more moves possible plus several other departures. With Didier Drogba having left, at the end of his contract, along with Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa, Chelsea’s new permanent manager, Roberto Di Matteo, will have to balance his squad. Sturridge has made clear that he would like to play as a central striker but Fernando Torres is set to start the campaign as first choice and Chelsea also know that the England international is a player they could demand a big fee for.The 22 year-old is recovering from viral meningitis, which has placed his participation in the Team GB Olympic squad in jeopardy, but has expressed his frustration at playing out of position at Chelsea as well as his lack of opportunities in the second half of last season.Chelsea will also listen to offers for Michael Essien and Florent Malouda while there were fresh claims yesterday that Barcelona might exercise a supposed buy-back clause for midfielder Oriol Romeu.Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is determined to create a “hungry, young team” and is targeting the attacking positions, in particular, adding more creativity and pace as he aims to challenge for the Premier League title next season and attempt to retain the Champions League. The club already have a core of relatively young players such as Gary Cahill (26), David Luiz (25), Ramires (25) and Juan Mata (24) and have also bought emerging talents such as Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne, both of whom may go on loan to gain more experience, as has goalkeeper Thibault Courtois, who is returning to Atletico Madrid.Oscar will be an exciting addition to the squad with one of his agents, Carlos Meinberg Neto, confirming the report in Tuesday’s Daily Telegraph that Chelsea were bidding. Neto claimed there was no agreement with Oscar’s club Internacional but, according to sources, that is not the case. “Tottenham also made an offer, but he should accept Chelsea’s offer as there is more exposure there,” Neto said.Schürrle, who can play as a central striker or as a winger, was part of Germany’s Euro 2012 squad, where he made two substitute appearances, and while Leverkusen have stated that he wants to remain with the Bundesliga club, Chelsea have felt sufficient encouragement to re-enter talks. The Premier League club do retain an interest in Hulk but are highly reluctant to deal with his club, Porto, and will not bid anywhere near the asking price of £60 million.Porto are also hoping to negotiate the departure of midfielder Joao Moutinho whose most likely destination would appear to be Spurs. So far Porto have had no offers close to their asking price of £32 million

Oscar Dos Santos Ready For Chelsea Swap Worth Of £25m

Oscar Dos Santos Who Plays For Brazil And Internacional Is A Mid-Fielder Who Has Been A Target of £25m. Internacional have lined up a deal for Paulo Henrique Ganso of Santos to replace Oscar, and, although they maintain that nothing has been signed with Chelsea, a deal to take the London club's outlay on new players past £60m is close.Tottenham Hotspur had an interest in Oscar but walked away from negotiations at the weekend, perhaps when it appeared that Chelsea were ready to gazump them.Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, has already funded the £32m signing of Eden Hazard from Lille and the £7m capture of Marko Marin from Werder Bremen; two young and sought-after attacking midfielders, and Oscar ticks similar boxes. The 20-year-old is a right-footed playmaker who can operate in any of the advanced midfield positions in the 4-2-3-1 formation that is favoured by the Chelsea manager, Roberto Di Matteo. He is noted for his speed and technical ability and he has made his mark at full international level, starring in the Brazil squad that recently played friendlies against Denmark, Mexico, Argentina and United States. He has played 70 times for Internacional, scoring 19 goals. Oscar has been included in the squad for the London Olympics. The Chelsea squad already has a Brazilian flavour, in the form of Ramires, David Luiz and Lucas Piazon, and Abramovich could add to it further with his pursuit of Hulk, the Porto striker. A £38m fee has been agreed in principle between the clubs but there are complications related to Hulk's third party ownership, and over who will pay the monies owing to his investors.

Indian Footballer Mahesh Thapa Dies Due to Collision With Goal-Keeper

In a tragic incident Mahesh Thapa, a 27-year-old footballer who plays in the local league, died moments after a collision with the goalkeeper during a match in Jalpaiguri. Thapa was first taken to the Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital but couldn't be admitted to the ICU due to lack of beds and he was then driven to a private nursing home called Marina. Unfortunately, the ICU was full there also. It was learnt that Thapa stopped breathing on the way to another private facility called Touch. He was then brought back to the Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead. District Sports Association (DSA) joint secretary, Bhola Mondal told PTI that the player was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance soon after the incident."There was no delay in taking the player to the hospital. There were no beds in the (first two) hospitals and we were told to wait but the condition of the player was such that we could not afford to delay," Mondal said. A player of Raikatpara Sports Association, Thapa was representing the Toralpara team against Bhanu Nagar team. The unfortunate incident took place when the opposition goalkeeper's knee crashed on to Thapa's chest, leading to the latter's collapse. A post-mortem has been conducted on the deceased's body to know the exact reasons of his death, and the reports are awaited. According to sources, those familiar with Thapa claimed that he had been playing for a long time and was not known to indulge in any bad habits. The incident comes barely four months after Bangalore footballer Venkatesh passed away during a match due to cardiac arrest. Venkatesh, could not be revived after suffering a cardiac arrest, and the lack of basic medical facilities played a part. In 2004, Dempo's Brazilian striker Cristiano Junior too had passed away on the field after colliding with then Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Paul.

England Wins Series 4-0 Against Australia

A "Bravo" Performance By England Stars Help Clean-Sweep The Series 4-0 In 5 ODI Series.Australia's coach, Mickey Arthur, had called for more mongrel but the Australian attack dog managed only a growl or two as England ruthlessly completed a 4-0 victory in a NatWest Series that remained in their control until the last. Australia remain top of the ICC one-day rankings solely because of the abandoned match at Edgbaston, spared by Pommie rain.England were set 146 for victory in 32 overs, a target reduced to 138 in 29 as rain tumbled for the last time from churlish Lancashire skies. There was potential for it to be awkward as Australia took two quick wickets, but Alastair Cook, looking more and more like a one-day captain of status, and Ravi Bopara, in one of his most bullish innings in an England shirt, timed England's seven-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare with aplomb.Cook fell with 12 runs needed, caught at slip off Ben Hilfenhaus for 58, but Bopara, his Essex colleague, saw things though. He has good reason to remember this series fondly. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer behind Ian Bell, strutting his stuff for England like he rarely has before, and has probably secured a batting place on the first Test ahead of Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow on the strength of it.Bopara had fun with the ball, too. His loosener strangled Steve Smith down the leg side and David Hussey edged another routine delivery to the wicketkeeper. If this weather keeps up, he can fiddle through a few overs as England's fifth bowler against South Africa.Australia will want to forget this series by the morning. They have been not as much out of season as overpowered by England's high-class pace attack in challenging conditions. It was their heaviest defet suffered by Australia in a limited-overs series. They will console themselves that it has been a tour with no significance, a tour devised by administrators during misguided diplomatic tit for tat. But Michael Clarke, Australia's captain, sought no excuses: "It was a wake-up call for the team," he said. "England were class. A lot of our team have not faced an attack like that in one-day cricket."The public have turned out in defiance of abysmal weather, and England have rewarded them with committed, powerful cricket, but not before time, a proper series, against South Africa, awaits. They have beaten Australia in a one-day series with conventional cricket and that will help convince them they can carry this form into the longer game. There have been more beautiful visions than the one that met England and Australia at the end of this series. The skies glowered in various shades of Manchester grey, a colour now so popular that it has swept the nation, and an extensive rebuilding scheme had left parts of the ground covered in scaffolding.Only the façade of the old pavilion remains. Walk behind it at the moment and it looks like a theatre prop except with more rubble. It could be excellent when it is finished, but it is not finished and a capacity crowd, having endured afternoon rain, suffered the privations of a half-finished stadium in the belief that a brave new world will have dawned by the time the Ashes Test returns a year's hence. It was 13 degrees in Manchester, colder than Christmas Day apparently, and Australia looked ready for the tour to end. David Warner, at the start, and George Bailey in the final throes of a laboured Australian innings, batted gamely. Bailey salvaged something from 86 for 6, finishing unbeaten on 46 from 41 balls as 25 came off the last two overs. However, James Tredwell was another England player with cause to regard the match as invaluable. Graeme Swann, England's premier offspinner, exudes the confidence of a chat show host; Tredwell, his experienced Kent replacement, displays a meekness that Swann presumably tossed aside soon after birth, along with his first baby rattle.Be that as it may, Tredwell proved a more than capable replacement for his more outgoing colleague. He finished with 2 for 23 in seven overs and was involved in one of two England run outs as their ground fielding again achieved standards that in this series their catching has not matched.Samit Patel redeemed himself for an earlier dropped catch with a sharp throw to Tredwell at the bowler's end as Peter Forrest failed to hustle a second run to long on. Clarke, again looking to up the tempo, sought a desperate single in to the off side and was comfortably run out by Morgan's direct hit.Such has been the praise lavished upon England for their rise to No 1 in the Test and T20 rankings, allied to the suspicion that an identical standing in ODIs might not be far behind, that a slight deterioration in their catching standards has largely passed unrecorded.James Anderson, the local favourite; the otherwise impressive Tredwell, who before his wickets would probably go down as the man least recognised; and Patel, who found himself playing the unwanted role of the fielding buffoon, dropped three catches between them in consecutive overs.Wade was dropped off Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in successive overs, Anderson palming away a chest-high chance (a rare blemish from England's finest close fielder that almost had DEAD RUBBER stamped on it) and Tredwell, who stooped for a low one somewhat rheumatically as if the endless rain was beginning to take its toll. As for Patel's fumble when Warner hacked Broad to third man, the looks of disbelief on the faces of spectators behind him told its own story. In that time, Warner fuelled Australia. He grafted hard and had one domineering moment when he swung Broad over the long-on boundary. He had a run-a-ball 32 when Tredwell produced turn and defeated an ungainly sweep.Wade, opening because of Shane Watson's return, injured, to Australia, made no claim to the job for good, scrambling 12 in 41 balls before Tredwell had him stumped. It was a hard ask - in challenging English conditions and against Anderson and Steve Finn, armed with two new balls - but his critical stare at the spot where the ball had turned quite normally was a poor exit.

AUSTRALIA SCORE: 145 for 7 (Bailey 46*, Bopara 2-8)

ENGLAND SCORE: 138 for 3 (Cook 58, Bopara 52*)

RESULT: England wins the 5TH ODI by 7 wickets through DL/METHOD.
