Australia Wins Test Series In Caribbean by 2-0

In The Third Test,After Australia winning They have won the series by 2-0 In the Home of West-Indies . Australia won the third and final test against West Indies by 75 runs on Friday to secure a 2-0 series win despite a valiant second innings effort from the home side.Set a daunting target of 370 to win, West Indies resumed on 173 for five and were bowled out for 294, shortly before lunch on the final day.Australia captain Michael Clarke finished with five wickets for only the second time in his test career while his counterpart Darren Sammy scored a lively 61, his best test score. The chase ended when Sammy top-edged Nathan Lyon, as he tried to sweep the spinner, and Ben Hilfenhaus pocketed the catch to prompt celebrations from the tourists. The Dominican crowd had appreciated a good and entertaining effort by the West Indian tail with local favourite Shane Shillingford making his best test score of 31 in a 49 run last wicket stand with Sammy. The target always looked too much for West Indies on a pitch that offered turn and bounce for the spinners but West Indies may wonder what might have been had Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Darren Bravo survived the final session on Thursday.Their 110 run partnership offered a glimmer of hope to the Caribbean team but Australia never really looked like letting slip their grip on the series. The first innings century from Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade proved to be decisive in the final assesment, the tail-end resistance he led taking the total from 169-7 to 328.As in the victory in the first test in Barbados it was the ability of Australia's lower order to make key contributions that proved the difference.Clarke's contribution with the ball on the last two days was a further reminder that while Australia may not have the world-class line-up of a few years ago, they still bat deep and have plenty of options with the ball.A fourth innnings total of 294 for West Indies on a surface that had been tough to score on, was a good effort and with Sammy's strokeplay at the close giving a supportive crowd something to cheer, the Caribbeans at least lost in the right manner. While West Indies now head off for a tough three test series in England, Australia will not play tests until South Africa visit in November.

Tito Vilanova Takes Coaching Of Catalans

Tito Vilanova has been appointed As Barcelona's Permanent Coach as The management excepts some trophies from him too just like Pep Did.Barcelona have announced that assistant coach Tito Vilanova will succeed Pep Guardiola as the permanent manager of the Catalan giants.
The 42-year-old is a surprise choice but the appointment does follow Barcelona’s philosophy of hiring from within. Vilanova was assistant coach during Guardiola’s tenure as manager and the Barca board will be hoping he can deliver the same trophy success as his former boss.Pep Guardiola quit as Barcelona boss head coach today after four successful years in charge but on the backs of failing to deliver another Champions League and La Liga title after being unable to defeat Chelsea or Real Madrid at the Nou Camp this past week. The news of Vilanova’s appointment came at the press conference just moments after Guardiola resigned.Vilanova came through the ranks at the Barcelona academy with Pep Guardiola and worked alongside him at Barcelona B before moving into his current position in 2008 when Guardiola initially became boss.

Pep Guardiola Era Comes To an End

Pep Guardiola The world's Best Team Barcelona's Coach Is leaving at the end of the season after the Copa Del Ray final.Pep Guardiola is set to announce he is quitting Barcelona at a press conference this lunchtime. He informed his squad at Friday's training session that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. According to reports from Spain Guardiola, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is understood to have told the club president, Sandro Rosell, of his decision on Thursday that he did not wish to sign a new one and will leave after the Copa del Rey final. The 41-year-old manager has led Barcelona to 13 trophies since taking over at the beginning of the 2008-09 season, including two Champions Leagues and three Spanish league titles.Guardiola has preferred to sign only one-year contracts for each of the previous two seasons and the delay in agreeing to renew for next season has suggested for the past few weeks that he was unlikely to stay.During the past week, Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Chelsea and suffered a home defeat by Real Madrid that will almost certainly cost them the Spanish title.Guardiola stepped up from Barca B manager to the first-team in 2008 and has gone on to become the most successful coach in the club's history. But the setback against Chelsea came only 72 hours after Barça's hopes of retaining their league title were dashed following a 2-1 defeat at home to arch rivals Real Madrid. That loss left them seven points behind José Mourinho's men with four games remaining.
Guardiola led Barça to the Primera Division title in his first season in charge after masterminding a squad overhaul which saw the likes of Ronaldinho and Deco sold and a greater emphasis placed on youth.
The results were immediate. Not only did Bar̤a win the league Рthe highlight being a 6-2 thrashing of Madrid at the Bernab̩u Рbut they also claimed the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
The 2009-10 campaign began with further success in the Spanish Super Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa World Club Cup as Barça became the first club side to win six major trophies in one calendar year. They failed to defend their Champions League crown after being eliminated by Mourinho-led Internazionale at the semi-final stage but retained their league title with a record points total of 99.With Madrid recruiting Mourinho in a bid to end Barcelona's run of success, the 2010-11 season was supposed to pose new challenges for Guardiola. But the former Spain midfielder, having signed David Villa to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, guided Barça to the league title once more and they backed that up by winning the Champions League again by defeating Manchester United at Wembley. The Spanish Super Cup and Uefa Super Cup were won, as was the Fifa Club World Cup, but league setbacks against Getafe and Osasuna undermined their title challenge.Barça have qualified for the final of the Copa del Rey next month in which they will meet Athletic Bilbao in what is set to be Guardiola's final game in charge.Speculation has begun over his potential successor with Ernesto Valverde, Marcelo Bielsa and Laurent Blanc all thought to be in the frame. As for Guardiola, he is expected to take a sabbatical from the game despite being linked with numerous jobs across Europe.

Celeberations After Scoring Goal.
Bayern Munich summoned up all their famous resilience to fight back from 2-0 down and beat Real Madrid 3-1 on penalties on Wednesday to set up a Champions League final showdown against Chelsea. Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer was the hero of the night, saving spot kicks in the shot Of Christiano Ronaldo, who had given Real a 2-0 lead early in the game, and Kaka before Bastian Schweinsteiger struck the decisive penalty.Bayern showed considerable nerve to get back into the match after conceding twice in the first 14 minutes and Arjen Robben levelled to make the score 3-3 on aggregate.A pulsating first half with chances for both sides fell away after the break.

Record hopes dashed
The Germans denied Real a crack at a record 10th European Cup and will meet Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on May 19th, after they stunned holders Barcelona on Tuesday 3-2 on aggregate.Real keeper Iker Casillas kept Real hopes alive by saving efforts from Toni Kroos and Philipp Lahm in the shootout but Sergio Ramos skied his penalty over the bar and Schweinsteiger rifled the Bavarians through.
Manuel Neuer celebrates after saving a penalty.
Night to remember
"I have not witnessed something like that in 40 years of professional football," said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "This tops everything we experienced in the 70s and 80s."The home side had quickly cancelled out Bayern's 2-1 first-leg win when Ronaldo netted a sixth-minute penalty after a handball in the area and then produced a smart finish from the edge of the area eight minutes later.  Bayern pulled a goal back in the 27th minute when Arjen Robben also netted from the spot after Mario Gomez had been bundled over by Pepe. After the break, both sides were more cautious but with extra time approaching Gomez squandered a chance to send Bayern through when he took too long to control and Khedira was able to get back and smother his weak shot.Extra time was draining on Real, who had all but wrapped up La Liga with a 2-1 win at Barca on Saturday, and that tiredness proved costly at the end.

Chelsea at last got their revenge after 2009

The match was draw 2-2 But the AGG was ( 3-2 ) to Chelsea. Sergio Busquets and Iniesta scored For Barcelona But Just when it was about to be Halftime Ramires Put it in Through Chip . In 90th Min Torres Scored a worth of 50 Million pounds after dodging Valdez 1on1.FC Barcelona, who shot no fewer than 23 times, twice onto the post, as also happened in the first leg, have been knocked out of the Champions League. But they go out with their heads held high, having remained faithful to their brave, attacking style, and almost in comprehensively being unrewarded for their efforts. There was nothing to criticise about Barça this Tuesday, but luck simply was not on their side. And that was despite things getting off to a far better start than anybody could have wished for. Busquets and Iniesta scored and Terry was sent off. It had taken just 43 minutes for Barça to turn the tie back into their favour. But a shock goal from Ramires meant that Barça still had some work to do in the second half. Messi hit the post twice, once from the penalty spot, and the last 45 minutes were a monologue as FC Barcelona tried and tried, and tried again, to find their way through the ten remaining men that Chelsea had camped deep in their own half. The goal just didn’t want to come, and then, inexplicably, Fernando Torres ran half the length of the pitch on his own before rounding Valdés to slot home the goal that sentenced the tie. Di Matteo’s side barely had any chances in the entire game, but made the very most of the few they did.The upshot of it all is that the defending champions are out of the competition despite demonstrating that they are a far superior side to Chelsea. But if you don’t take your chances, you pay the price, and it is for that reason alone that Barcelona will not be going to Munich.

Stop-start beginning

Guardiola made as many as four changes to the side that started last Saturday’s clásico against Real Madrid. He opted for a three-man defence of Mascherano, Piqué and Puyol, without out-and-out full backs. And it was the respective team’s centre backs that were the protagonists of the first few minutes of football. For Chelsea, Cahill was substituted by Bosingwa after just 11 minutes of play. A quarter of an hour later Piqué was replaced, by Alves, in the same position for FC Barcelona, after a brutal aerial clash involving himself, Valdés and Drogba left him momentarily stunned on the floor. So many interruptions were doing nothing to benefit Barcelona’s plans.

Busquets pulls the tie level

Whenever the ball was in play, events panned out almost identically to the way they did at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, with only Drogba in an advanced position, had little intention of doing anything other than defend, and left it to Barça to take the initiative, with Alexis the most active, especially when supplied by an energetic Cuenca on the right. And it was the latter who created the first goal of the night, following a corner kick, with an exquisite pass to Busquets. Everything was back level, and the Camp Nou started roaring.

Terry off

Shortly after his side went a goal down, Terry, in an off the ball incident, kneed Alexis in the back. It was a shockingly foolish action for a man of his experience, and cost him a red card and ultimately a place in the Munich final. With Cahill injured, Terry sent off and David Luiz already sidelined through injury, Chelsea were left without any natural centre backs. Their intention had clearly been to come to Barcelona and defend, and they were now condemned to doing so with a makeshift back four of Ramires, Ivanovic, Bosingwa and Cole. Five minutes later, Barça made them pay the price with a rapid counter attack that ended with Messi supplying an assist for Iniesta to make it 2-0. At that point, it looked like Barça would end up romping home. Munich was in sight. But just like on Saturday against Real Madrid, when Cristiano Ronaldo responded almost immediately to Alexis’ goal, FC Barcelona were hit within in seconds of scoring themselves. Ramires managed to lose his marker and sent home a long-range chip to make it 2-1, and the away goal meant that Chelsea were, as things stood, heading for Munich again.

Messi misses penalty

The manic end to the first half carried over into the second. Within seconds, the referee was pointing to the penalty spot after Drogba brought down Cesc in the area. But Messi struck his spot-kick straight against the Chelsea bar. Moments later, an Alexis header skimmed wide of the post, and then a Cuenca effort was turned away by Chelsea keeper Cech. The onslaught on the Chelsea goal was constant, and Chelsea had withdrawn so intensely into their own area that even Drogba did his bit by playing at left back.
Everything was heading in one direction – that of Cech, who was simply outstanding this evening. But he was beaten by Alexis, who was caught offside by the very narrowest of margins, and shortly after Messi hit the post for the second time of the night. The ball just did not want to go in.

Torres, and game over

And incredible as it might seem, with Barça now sending everything they had forward in search of the elusive third goal, the ball somehow ended up in the path of late substitute Torres. The Spaniard ran solo across half the length of the pitch, dribbled the ball around Valdés, and scored the goal that ended any hope Barça had of appearing in the Munich final. Football can be so unfair sometimes.

                            Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal and Chelsea cancelled each other in the Barclays Premier League as they played out a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium.
With both clubs in the hunt for a top-four berth and a place in next season's UEFA Champions League it was a tight encounter, though Robin van Persie and Laurent Koscielny both hit the woodwork for Arsenal in the first half.
The Gunners always looked the likelier to take the three points, but Chelsea defended magnificently and Petr Cech made two more fine saves from Van Persie to help earn his side a draw.

                 Newcastle United 3-0 Stoke City

Newcastle United won their sixth successive fixture to boost their chances of finishing in the top four in the Barclays Premier League as they swept aside Stoke City.

Newcastle got off to a dream start, going 2-0 up with 14 minutes on the clock as Yohan Cabaye bundled in after Papiss Cisse's header hit the bar. The Senegal international then doubled the lead after converting Cabaye's stunning through ball.

Cisse had a goal disallowed for offside, but the outstanding Cabaye scored the third with a sumptuous curler from 22 yards as Alan Pardew's team carried on their wonderful run.

                          Aston Villa 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill returned to his former club Aston Villa as the teams played out a goalless draw at Villa Park.

The first half was a tight, tense affair, but Sunderland improved after the break and, after Nicklas Bendtner had a shot cleared off the line, the Danish striker had a goal ruled out for offside.

Villa struggled to create many good chances and James McClean had a header saved by Shay Given before the Black Cats had Craig Gardner sent off late on.

        Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Norwich City

Blackburn gave their survival hopes a massive boost at the bottom of the League by scoring in both halves to beat Norwich at Ewood Park.
Norwich shaded the first half but Rovers created the clearer chances and, after Yakubu's overhead kick hit a post, they took the lead when Mauro Formica kept his cool inside the area to fire into the net.
David Hoilett doubled the lead in the second half with a screaming finish into the far corner from 25 yards, and though Norwich created a few opportunities, they could not get back into the match.

           Bolton Wanderers 1-1 Swansea City

Bolton were frustrated in their bid to climb out of the Barclays Premier League's relegation zone as they were held by Swansea at the Reebok Stadium.
Swansea took an early lead when Scott Sinclair cut in from the left and curled a stunning shot into the top corner, but Bolton soon levelled when Chris Eagles side-footed in Martin Petrov's left-wing cross.
The Swans looked the better side in the second half and Danny Graham hit the bar, though Bolton could have won it late on when Eagles drilled narrowly wide from 18 yards.

                             Fulham 2-1 Wigan Athletic

Wigan's fine recent run was brought to an abrupt half at Craven Cottage as Fulham fought back from a goal behind to earn three points.
The first half was a tight affair, with Damien Duff curling off target for the hosts and Jordi Gomez forcing a decent low save from Mark Schwarzer as Wigan pressed forward.
Wigan went ahead when Emmerson Boyce fired in from 20 yards but Fulham equalised almost immediately, Pavel Pogrebnyak smashing past Ali Al Habsi, before Philippe Senderos nodded in an 89th-minute winner.

            Sunday's Results BPL

 Manchester United 4-4 Everton

Battling Everton came back strongly to deny Manchester United victory in a stunning Barclays Premier League match at Old Trafford.
The draw means United are three points ahead of closest title rivals Manchester City - who won their Sunday match at Wolves 2-0. The two teams play at City's Etihad Stadium on April 30th.
After a quiet opening, Nikica Jelavic produced a clever header from a tight angle to put the visitors in front, but Wayne Rooney nodded in Luis Nani's cross to level before half-time.
United seemingly took control as Danny Welbeck thumped in a superb second, then Welbeck turned provider for Nani to neatly chip in.
Everton's Marouane Fellaini rifled in a great finish to make it 3-2, but Rooney's second - his 26th Barclays Premier League goal of the season, and one which put him fourth on United's all-time goalscorer list - seemed to have swung things decisively in United's favour.
Yet there was time for a final twist in the final 10 minutes as Jelavic hammered in his second, then Steven Pienaar pounced to slot home to make it 4-4.

                        Wolves 0-2 Manchester City

Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri scored as Manchester City boosted their Barclays Premier League title charge with a victory which condemned Wolverhampton Wanderers to relegation.
Aguero finished from a brilliant through-ball by Gael Clichy to give Roberto Mancini's men the lead in the first-half.
Wolves belied their bottom position with a battling, organised display, but when Nasri kept his composure to finish following Carlos Tevez's pass, their challenge was over.
City are now three points behind leaders Manchester United, and host their neighbours at the Etihad Stadium on Monday, April 30th in a match which is likely to decide who will be Barclays Premier League champions for 2011/12.

      Liverpool 0-1 West Bromwich Albion

Peter Odemwingie scored the only goal as West Bromwich Albion won at Liverpool for the first time since 1967 - but the Reds will rue a host of missed chances.
Glen Johnson's slip let in Odemwingie on 75 minutes, and the forward fired past Jose Reina to score.
But Kenny Dalglish's men saw a bounty of opportunities go begging, with Jordan Henderson hitting the underside of the crossbar and Dirk Kuyt seeing a low shot strike the inside of the post.
The home side had 28 shots in total, but slumped to a third home defeat in the Barclays Premier League this seasons against a Baggies' side which moves into the top 10.

Today he played just enough to win. I made a lot of unforced errors. Barcelona Vs Real Madrid ElClasico Tonight

Tonight's Match The rivals In Spanish they are called  ElClasico Barcelona vs Real madrid .Real Madrid will be looking to put their slip-ups aside and the La Liga title race to bed in one of the most keenly-anticipated El Clasico clashes of all time.
Barcelona have cut the gap from 10 points to just four thanks to 11 successive league wins, with Jose Mourinho's men drawing three times during that run, but victory on Saturday night will leave the capital side seven points clear with just four to play.
Both sides will be looking to bounce back from defeats in the first legs of their respective Champions League semi-final ties, with Real Madrid losing 2-1 at Bayern Munich before Barcelona lost 1-0 at Chelsea.
Another loss for Real Madrid would leave them leading La Liga by just a single point and, with tricky clashes with Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao to follow, possessing no room for further slip-ups.

Guardiola: Looking to cut Real Madrid's lead

Mind games

Barca boss Pep Guardiola has cranked up the pressure in the build-up to Saturday night's clash by maintaining that the title is Madrid's to lose rather than for his side to win, while his opposite number Mourinho has been virtually muted, insisting his opinions will only serve to earn him further touchline bans following various clashes with officials.
The build-up to the Nou Camp clash has inevitably been dominated by the game's two biggest names, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the duo scoring a record-breaking 41 goals in La Liga already, eclipsing the 40-goal record set by Ronaldo last season.
Messi has scored a hefty percentage of his at home with a remarkable 28 goals at the Nou Camp, while Ronaldo has been almost as prolific away from the Bernabeu, netting 20 times on the road.
However, the battle of Spain's top two has rarely been two-man show, with the pair netting just six of the 20 goals in the duos five meeting this season.

Pantomime villain

The rivalry between Guardiola and Mourinho has all too often proved as much of an intriguing sub-plot in recent times, with Mourinho something of a pantomime villain at Camp Nou since cutting his coaching teeth in Catalunya before returning for controversy-packed encounters at the reins of Chelsea, Inter Milan and now their great rivals.
Then there's the poignant history of their rivalry two clubs, divided politically and driven by a battle for titles throughout their rich pasts, which has seen Real Madrid claim the most league titles (31) but the Catalans dominating of late with three-successive La Liga crowns.
Both teams are virtually full strength with Alexis Sanchez expected to be fit despite picking up a knock against Chelsea, while Gerard Pique may return after sitting out the defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid welcome back Xabi Alonso from a one-match domestic ban, meaning Mourinho only remains without long-term absentees Ricardo Carvalho (thigh) and Lassana Diarra (hamstring) as he looks to record a first win at the Nou Camp.

Chelsea Wins Against Barcelona By 1-0

Didier Drogba's Left footed shot assisted by Ramires , secured a comfortable win for Chelsea But surprisingly Barcelona Dominated the game. Against the reigning European champions it was one of those Chelsea performances that ends with the forward players heaping praise on the defenders and those at the back equally complementary about the strikers.
The Blues executed a game plan against Barcelona to the degree that we have a goal advantage and a home clean sheet at the midway point in a finely balanced tie. It was one of those nights when it was all-hands-on-deck when it came to blocking the Spaniards' way to our goal, as acknowledged by Juan Mata after the game.
'The defenders worked very well, and all the team were defending, not only the back four,' he said.
'We had to defend, because Barcelona kept a lot of the ball, and take advantage of our chances to score - and we did it. We achieved a good result for us. We had two or three chances to score and 1-0 is a good result.'
'We had to be very patient, Barcelona had an awful lot of possession early on and I didn't touch it for the first 10 to 15 minutes,' confirmed John Terry.
'Our midfielders had to work really hard and Didier up front on his own as well. It was a great, tireless performance from everyone.
'Didier is incredible,' added the captain. 'That is what he is all about - these big occasions - and you saw that on Sunday against Spurs as well.
'He put fear into the Spurs back four and he did that again last night. He is up there on his own against some of the best defenders in the world and it can be frustrating for him at times, but he holds the ball up so well and that allows our midfielders to get forward.'
Drogba's left-foot finish for the only goal just before half-time came from a Ramires cross off his weaker foot too. As in Napoli tie, the Brazilian was used on the left rather than his accustomed right side and earned praise from Mata, a player more usually on the left flank.
'He is a very fast player and very important for us in the counter attack, and against Barcelona he showed it.'
Drogba believes Chelsea have learnt from our previous encounters with Barcelona.
'We have improved from three years ago because we did not concede a goal at home and we are just happy because the result is a good one. We are going to go there and try to have a go and qualify.
'We come from a difficult time and it is great to play these games. It was difficult on the night but the most important thing was for us to win this game.'
'It is clearly going to be tough going back there to Barcelona,' admits John Terry. 'Quite clearly they are going to have opportunities there on a big pitch and given their possession. They are a great side but we showed in the first game that we are not in awe of them.
'We respect them, it is going to be tough, but another performance like that and we will be okay.'

Ashley Cole Confident Ahead Of Catalans Clash

Ashley Cole The Left Back Of Chelsea's Defense Insists Our team Can Beat Barcelona In the Semis Tonight.

The Blues left-back feels that Roberto di Matteo’s side have what it takes to nullify the attacking threat of Pep Guardiola’s team and that it will be Chelsea in the final.
Cole also feels that Chelsea have been the closest of all English sides at toppling the Catalan side and revealed the west Londoners have a game-plan to eliminate the reigning European champions.“Chelsea, of course. Chelsea against Real Madrid, I hope,” he said in the Evening Standard when asked who he thinks will be stepping out in Munich next month.
“We know what Barcelona are about and that we have to be on our game. We’re confident and feel we’re good enough to progress.
“I do think that while they’re not worried about us, out of the teams they’ve played in the Champions League and the Premier League sides they’ve faced, we have given them the hardest run.”
Cole is talking about the 2009 semi-final when he speaks of running Barcelona close, where a last minute Andres Iniesta strike meant Chelsea went out on away goals on a night filled with controversy.
The Blues felt as though the referee on the night, Tom Henning Ovrebo, denied them a number of penalty kicks and their anger was evident when they left the field as Didier Drogba ranted at cameras, something he was banned for afterwards.Despite the feeling of injustice and the last-gasp elimination, Cole was proud of the side’s performance.“The match against them in 2009 was one of the best games I have seen Chelsea play, with the fight and the determination and the spirit,” he added.“But Iniesta just popped up with that great strike. That’s what they’ve got. All they need is one shot.”
Chelsea will be buoyed going into the game after their emphatic 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday evening.

No Champions Trophy after 2013

Australia won the previous Champions Trophy, in 2009

The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, to be held in England, will be the last time the tournament is played as the ICC moves towards having one championship for each of the game's three formats from 2015. The tournament is part of the Future Tours Program in 2013 but does not appear after that, with the play-offs for the World Test Championship scheduled for June 1017."If you don't see it in the schedule, it means it is not planned for the future," Haroon Lorgat, the ICC's chief executive, said at a press conference following the executive board meeting on Monday. "We have said for a while that we would like one championship event for each format. We are including the Test championship in there. We have the World Cup to have the champion for 50-overs cricket. So we are not planning to hold Champions Trophy in the future."The World Test Championship was initially scheduled for 2013, but had to be postponed due to the ICC's commitments to its broadcaster and sponsors. The ICC's broadcast partner is, with whom they have a contract till 2015. The ICC had initially hoped to convince all interested parties to switch the Champions Trophy, the ICC's second-biggest 50-over tournament, to play-offs between the top four Test teams as per the ICC Test rankings. However, after the ICC's executive board meeting in October, 2011, it released a statement saying there would be significant commercial challenges in replacing the Champions Trophy without the support and consent of the ICC's broadcast partner. Changing the tournament's format from ODIs to Test play-offs would have required a substantial cut in the broadcast rights fee, which would have repercussions on the Members.Inaugurated as the ICC Knock Out tournament in 1998, the Champions Trophy was played every two years until 2009, switching to a round-robin format in 2002. Originally, all ten Full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) took part, together with (for the first four competitions) two Associate members. The 2013 event in England will feature the eight highest-ranked ODI teams calculated six months before the tournament.

De Villiers, Gayle help Bangalore edge thriller

AB de Villiers played a match-winning cameo, together with Saurabh Tiwary
Royal Challengers Bangalore 186 for 4 (Gayle 81, Tiwary 36*, de Villiers 33*) beat Pune Warriors 182 for 6 (Uthappa 69, Ryder 34, Samuels 34) by six wickets
Chris Gayle was  going at round  a run a ball against some tight bowling. Then he calmly decided to shift gears. The bowling ceased to matter; five consecutive sixes came against the bowler with one of the best economy-rates in the IPL, Rahul Sharma. Treating that Rahul over as an aberration, Pune Warriors responded with more tight bowling, with Ashish Nehra yorking Gayle. But AB de Villiers and Saurabh Tiwaryhit 24 off the final over, bowled by Nehra, to pull off an improbable win, Royal Challengers Bangalore's first in four games.
For more than three-quarters of the game, the Royal Challengers had played catch-up to the Warriors. After Robin Uthappa's 69 took the visitors to 182, they had kept the Royal Challengers, and Gayle, in check for 12 overs. Gayle and Virat Kohli, game-changers both, had crawled along in a partnership of 30 in 35 deliveries. The asking-rate had ballooned to over 13, with 111 needed from 50. It claimed Kohli, who found deep point as he tried to hit out.Kohli's dismissal fired up Gayle, who was on 37 off 35 then. Rahul bowled short, he bowled full, he went around the stumps, he went wide of the crease, he went wide of Gayle. To no avail. Five consecutive sixes later, the asking-rate was down by more than a couple of runs.Warriors were stunned but they recovered quickly. Ashok Dinda, battling a painful side strain, conceded just 12 in two overs, including seven off the penultimate one with Royal Challengers needing 28 from 12. In between, Nehra had, for once, found the perfect yorker to send Gayle back for 81 off 48.De Villiers and Tiwary kept the Royal Challengers in the hunt, hitting a six each to take 16 off the 18th over bowled by Angelo Mathews. Dinda's final over, the19th, seemed to have left Royal Challengers too much to get in the 20th over - 21.De Villiers scrambled outside off to play the scoop off the second delivery in the final over, arming it past the wicketkeeper for four. Nehra delivered a low full toss and a length ball next. De Villiers smoked one straight down the ground for six; the next one was scooped nervelessly for another six over fine leg. With three needed off the last ball, Tiwary swung a length ball over the long-on boundary even as the rain came pouring down. Marlon Samuels, who had gone for under three an over, had two overs left.Somehow, the Royal Challengers' batsmen had delivered after their bowlers had once again conceded a substantial score. Uthappa did most of the scoring with a power-packed half-century at the top of the order with Jesse Ryder and Samuels chipping in with smaller contributions. The opening partnership between Uthappa and Ryder was worth 63 in seven overs. By then, Uthappa was in complete control. He timed three consecutive reverse-sweeps off Dilshan, with two of them beating short third man. He was put down by KP Appanna at long-off, a tough diving chance off Vinay Kumar in the 12th over but departed in the next as he sliced Daniel Vettori to point. The Warriors went at the same rate of around nine an over after Uthappa's dismissal with Samuels smashing the spinners for a couple of sixes. As it turned out, though, even 13 an over wasn't enough to deny Gayle, De Villiers and Tiwary.
